What Coffee Are You?
Generations, Personalities, and the Rise of Iced Drinks
Coffee is more than just a drink; it’s a personality trait. We’ve designed a “What Coffee Are You?” quiz as a fun way to see how your generation, habits, and personality might align with your go-to brew. But it also reveals something deeper: our coffee choices are shifting, especially when it comes to iced drinks. Let’s dive into what your favourite coffee says about you, and what the latest data tells us about how the UK is drinking coffee in 2025 and beyond.
Generational Coffee Preferences: Where Do You Fit?
The quiz begins with a simple question: Which generation do you identify with? From there, it branches into coffee styles that reflect both taste and personality.
Boomers → French Press & Americano
If you’re straightforward, value comfort, and enjoy structure, you might lean toward the French Press or Americano. These drinks suit those who are loyal, calm, and sophisticated, a reflection of traditional tastes.Millennials → Flat White & Cappuccino
Working long hours? Then you might identify with the Flat White: sophisticated, outspoken, and detail-focused. Prefer something slightly adventurous and reliable? The Cappuccino could be your match. Millennials often balance ambition with a desire for warmth and comfort, which shows in their coffee choices.Gen Z → Iced Lattes, Cold Brew & Matcha
For Gen Z, iced coffee isn’t just a summer treat - it’s a year-round lifestyle. If you’re self-confident and conscientious, you might lean toward Cold Brew. Feel spontaneous and vibrant? That’s the Iced Latte. Or perhaps you’re health-conscious and creative, which aligns with Matcha. Gen Z coffee culture is visual, experimental, and heavily shaped by social media trends.
The Rise of Iced Coffee (and Who’s Drinking It)
It’s no coincidence that the infographic shows Gen Z gravitating toward iced drinks. The stats prove it:
Year-round iced coffee: In the UK, 43% of industry leaders now say iced coffee is in demand all year round, not just during summer months. Younger consumers are leading this shift, with 18% drinking iced coffee weekly, up from 16% last year (Allegra Project Café 2024).
Cold brew adoption: Around 43% of UK consumers drink cold brew at least monthly, with 15% enjoying it weekly and 8% daily (Tea & Coffee Trade Journal). Once a niche, cold brew has now become a mainstream choice, especially among under-30s.
Generational split: Almost half (45%) of under-30s who drink iced beverages buy one weekly. Under-35s are also more likely to buy iced coffee outside of summer, making it a drink for all seasons (Yumda, 2025).
Plant-Based & Health-Conscious Choices
Over 56% of coffee sales in the UK are now made with oat milk, compared to just 39% with dairy. Almond, soy, and coconut trail behind, but the demand for plant-based products continues to grow (Public Sector Catering, 2025).
There’s been a 25% rise in plant-based iced coffee options in the past year in the UK, reflecting health-conscious and eco-aware choices (Innova Market Insights).
Matcha, highlighted in the infographic as “health conscious, contemplative, creative,” is also booming, especially with Gen Z consumers who see it as a cleaner energy alternative to coffee.
