Supporting Lymm’s Community: Lymm Repair Café Celebrates 1,000 Visitors

At Coffee House, we’re passionate about more than just great coffee; we’re proud to support local community projects that make a real difference. One such project is the Lymm Repair Café, which recently celebrated a fantastic milestone by welcoming its 1,000th visitor.

This achievement highlights the strength of community spirit in Lymm and the wider Warrington area, especially as the Repair Café operates just one morning a month and has been running for little over a year with no formal funding.

What Is the Lymm Repair Café?

The Lymm Repair Café is a community-led initiative supported by Lymm Parish Council, Warrington Borough Council, and local businesses such as The Coffee House.

Residents from Lymm and surrounding areas are invited to bring along broken household items, which are repaired by skilled local volunteers in exchange for a “pay what you can” donation. The aim is simple: reduce waste, save money, and bring people together.

While waiting, visitors can enjoy:

  • Homemade cakes prepared by volunteers

  • Soup

Making a Sustainable Difference in Warrington & Lymm

Thanks to the dedication of over 30 volunteers from across the Warrington borough, the Repair Café has already repaired or restored hundreds of items that might otherwise have ended up in landfill.

So far, the team has:

  • Repaired 75% of over 800 items presented

  • Sharpened 220+ tools

  • Fixed 220 electrical items

  • Mended 175 items of clothing

  • Repaired 77 pieces of jewellery

  • Restored 50+ bikes

Items have ranged from hoovers, children’s toys, and guitars to antique dolls, vintage 1970s lamps, and even an accordion.

When repairs can’t be completed immediately, volunteers help residents find replacement parts online, which can be fitted at the next monthly Repair Café session in Lymm.

A Social Hub for the Local Community

The Lymm Repair Café is about much more than repairs. It’s a welcoming social space where residents can meet neighbours, enjoy a cup of coffee, and spend time together, even if they don’t have anything to fix.

Ben Tolhurst, a local resident who helps run the Repair Café, said:

“This is a great example of a multi-stakeholder community project providing a much-needed local service for residents of Lymm and surrounding areas – and we have lots of ideas for how to build on this project.”
